Party disciplinary committee chairman Chong Chien Jen said all eight failed to respond to the letter, thus ending their membership."After considering the cases, the committee decided to terminate their membership with immediate effect," he said in a statement Tuesday .
Earlier in July, the eight were said to have been identified by the party as having attended a press conference where Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam announced he was joining Gerakan in June. The eight are D.V. Dan Adriel, J.P. Angeline Phillip, P. Murugiah, K.P.J. Joseph Hendry, Amir Abdullah, R. Marimutu, S. Theivanai and J.B. William John.
DAP's Sivasubramaniam and Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong, as well as Titi Serong assemblyman Hasnul Zulkarnain Abdul Munaim, formerly of Amanah, declared themselves independents following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan state government in March.
