EC to ensure all SOPs followed during Slim by-election

EC deputy chairman Dr Azmi Shahrom said the SOPs would be strictly implemented during staff briefings, nomination process, printing of ballot paper, issuance and counting of ballot papers.

It will also be put in place during inspection of ballot boxes, throughout the campaign period, on nomination day and counting process. "Emphasis will be given on social distancing compliance, the use of face mask, hand sanitizer and body temperature checks," he said when announcing key dates for the Slim by-election on Thursday .The Slim state seat in Perak is vacant following the death of its four-term assemblyman Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, who died from a heart attack on July 15.

Azmi said the EC would ensure that all campaign activities would be in line with the government's directive. Among them the presence of voters and election workers during ceramah would no longer be limited to 250 people but this would depend on the size of the venue plus social distancing.There are a total of 23,094 voters registered in the Slim state constituency.
