The Philippine Court of Appeals ruled Rappler cannot claim it is 100% Philippine-owned as required by law.

CEO of Philippine news website Rappler Maria Ressa, who was named a Time Magazine “Person of the Year” in 2018 for her journalistic work, slammed the fresh case as a new front of “harassment” intended to silence her website

Rappler cannot claim it is 100% Philippine-owned as required by law, the appeals court said, standing by its earlier decision affirming Securities and Exchange Commission’s closure order. Rappler’s head, Maria Ressa, said via Twitter the news site “will continue to challenge legally” the court decision, and maintained its foreign investor does not have editorial or business control over the media company.
