KOTA KINABALU: Two men had a close brush with death following an accident in a ravine along the Lahad Datu - Kunak road late Monday (July 26).

The two victims - Ahmad Mulunji, 55 and Jamali Kummali, 45 - escaped with minor injuries following the 11.30pm mishap when their MPV was travelling at an area called Kawasan Sabahan.

Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Department officials said that the driver, Ahmad, had lost control of the vehicle which resulted in them skidding off the main road and falling into the ravine, some 10m down.Ahmad managed to escape unscathed while Jamali sustained minor injuries. Both victims were given a preliminary medical examination and assistance when firemen arrived before they were sent to the Lahad Datu Hospital for further treatment.

Firemen wrapped up their rescue operation at around 12.35am Tuesday after making sure everything was clear and there were no accident debris that could pose harm to other road users at the scene.
