JOHOR BARU: A surprise visit by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong to the Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) here uncovered a host of unsatisfactory matters.

The Transport Minister said he was saddened to see people wasting their time in long queues that snaked around the JPJ building during his spot check at Taman Daya on Sunday .

"I went to the source to find out what went wrong and I was disappointed to find that only two out of the four driver’s licence printing machines there from service provider Percetakan Keselamatan Nasional were functioning,” said Dr Wee. At the same time, Dr Wee instructed the JPJ headquarters to compile information from all of its branches as well as those in UTC and post offices about the latest condition of the driving licence printing machines that were supplied by the same service provider.

"From this surprise working visit, I can say that the JPJ service counter system is quite ancient and needs to move towards digitalisation for the long term and to provide more efficient services,” he said.
