GEORGE TOWN: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong says he will help the Kek Lok Si Charity Hospital seek certain tax exemptions.

Dr Wee, who visited the hospital here on Thursday , said he will help find a long-term arrangement on taxation issues with the authorities.

"I understand that the electricity bill alone is between RM60,000 and RM80,000 a month," the MCA president told a press conference after visiting the hospital at Air Itam here. "It is not easy to establish a charitable hospital and hopefully, the public will give it strong support," he added. The hospital officially opened its doors to the public on Wednesday although it has been operating since July 18.

The hospital is equipped with 50 beds, six haemodialysis machines, two operating theatres and facilities with state-of-the-art equipment.
