GEORGE TOWN: The debate between Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and former finance minister Lim Guan Eng will provide clarity on the cabotage policy issue and lawmakers are urged not to jump to conclusions on the matter.

MCA vice-president Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim can also refer to Dr Wee's comprehensive explanation on the issue.

Sim had urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to intervene and overturn Dr Wee's decision to revoke the exemption of the cabotage policy on undersea cable repairs. Tan also said Dr Wee had previously provided an explanation on Sim's claims that the cabotage policy on undersea cable repairs would involve billions of ringgit in losses."Thus, instead of jumping to conclusions, Sim should have read and understood Dr Wee's comprehensive explanation on the subject matter.

"Since both Dr Wee and Lim agreed to debate the subject, why not give the benefit of doubt and listen to the view from both sides?" he said.
