The Parliament, in a statement today , said that the assembly - held in conjunction with the Asean Summit - was an important platform for dialogue and cooperation between Asean leaders and AIPA members.
"This year’s assembly will be chaired by the Speaker of Indonesia’s People's Representative Council, Maharani Nakshatra Kusyala Devi, the first Indonesian woman Speaker. "Asean-AIPA is a medium where Asean MPs can exchange views relating to economic, social, and political issues and craft strategies to tackle them,” it added.
Malaysia’s involvement in the 44th Asean-AIPA would strengthen international cooperation and multilateralism, in terms of active dialogue to resolve critical issues in Asean. Johari also said that the country’s participation reflected its determination to foster close ties with fellow Asean members in increasing accountability, crafting comprehensive policies, and drive more public involvement efforts and regional understanding to build an Asean community that is more resilient, competitive and prosperous.Article type: free
