KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat has approved a motion to extend the deadline for the Parliamentary Special Select Committee to table its recommendations on the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) Bill.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Liew Vui Keong, who tabled the motion, said the committee was supposed to have tabled their recommendation by Nov 18.Liew said this will allow the committee to scrutinise the Bill and issues raised by the public in a more detailed manner. The decision to refer the IPCMC Bill to the committee was to allow for improvements to the proposed law.

The Bill had been debated by 30 members of Parliament from both sides of the political divide with no vote taken before it was referred to the committee. The IPCMC was tabled and will replace the Enforcement Integrity Agency Commission , which was set up to look into complaints against enforcement agencies including the police.
