KUALA LUMPUR: A man with a “Datuk Seri” title, who was being sought by police to help in investigations into an attack on an entertainment centre on Jalan Klang Lama here on May 3, has given himself up to police.
Deputy KL Criminal Investigation Department chief Alzafny Ahmad said the suspect, aged about 40, surrendered at the Brickfields police station at 3pm on Friday, Bernama reported. The suspect, who was accompanied by his lawyer, was released on police bail after his statement was recorded by police. The Star Online reported that the Datuk Seri was the same one who was involved in causing grievous hurt to two Rela volunteers carrying out duties at a temple in Ampang in 2017.
On May 10, the Ampang Magistrate’s Court acquitted and discharged the businessman after the two Rela men agreed to settle the matter.Alzafny said 15 suspects, including the Datuk Seri, had been rounded up over the incident and all have been released on police bail.Media reports had stated that 40 people, armed with parangs and sticks had damaged furniture at the entertainment centre. They are believed to be secret society elements.
