Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said between Jan 1 and April 27, Dang Wangi police received 23 reports of theft involving the loss of various items, including MyKad."The culprits wanted to escape the fine imposed by the National Registration Department for losing their MyKad.
"An RM100 fine is imposed for losing the document for the first time, RM300 a second time, and RM1,000 for third time onwards," he said when contacted on Monday . A total of 14 cases have been prosecuted while nine other cases are still under investigation, he added. "We hope the public will refrain from lodging false police reports to cover up a mistake or wrongdoing.
"We will take stern action against anyone who lodges a false police report," ACP Mohamad Zainal said.
