Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the damage to the 600mm pipe has caused the area to experience unscheduled water disruption since Friday afternoon and work to repair the pipe has been carried out since 8pm .
He said based on information provided by the Penang Water Supply Corporation , the water supply disruption in the area was due to damage to a pipe there and the repair work was completed at 8am but it had to be extended until later Saturday ."I hope the people involved are patient as we expect the supply to fully recover before Hari Raya Haji on Sunday ," he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the George Town Festival at the Hin Bus Depot in George Town, Penang on Saturday.
When asked for an update on the water supply disruption in the state due to the abnormally high turbidity of incoming raw water from Sungai Muda caused by the massive floods in Baling, Kedah, Chow said the water supply problem has been solved in most locations but some places such as at high ground and users at the end of the system in the South-west district were still experiencing water supply disruptions.
"I hope those still experiencing water supply disruptions will be patient as PBAPP was working to ensure that they had full supply by this evening."Only areas on higher ground and those at the end of the piping system have been experiencing issues of water supply which we hope will be settled by Sunday," he said.
