PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 9,673 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday (April 16), says the Health Ministry.

It said through data released on its CovidNow portal on Sunday that this brings the total number of infections in the country to 4,372,697 cases since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry reported that there were 25 imported Covid-19 infections on Saturday, with the remaining 9,648 cases being the result of local transmissions. The CovidNow portal also said that there were 14,267 recoveries on Saturday, bringing the total number of active cases in Malaysia to 113,175.

Of the active cases, 97.5% or 110,385 individuals are undergoing home quarantine, while 357 people, or 0.3% of the active infections are being treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres . Only 2% of active cases or 2,281 individuals needed to be hospitalised, with 152 warded in intensive care units throughout the country.
