HONG KONG: The Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic continues to rage across the Asia-Pacific, as Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nepal all witnessed rapidly rising cases over the weekend.

Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said during a briefing on Saturday afternoon that"636 new COVID-19 positive cases and eight deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh."

A total of 959 deaths have now been recorded in the country, an increase of 16 over the past 24 hours. South Korea reported 18 more cases of the Covid-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of Sunday morning, raising the total number of infections to 10,840.Meanwhile, the city government of South Korea's capital Seoul on Saturday had to order all entertainment spots, including clubs and bars, to immediately halt business as a cluster infection of the Covid-19 was detected in the popular multicultural neighborhood of Itaewon.

The number of Covid-19 cases in Nepal had crossed 100 marks on Thursday and the cases were on the rise in recent weeks despite the Nepali government's efforts to prevent the disease from spreading through measures like a nationwide lockdown. Malaysia reported 54 new cases and another fatality from Covid-19 on Saturday, bringing the total cases in the country to 6,589 and total deaths to 108, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.
