KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster in Keningau district has emerged after the coronavirus was found to have been transmitted at several gatherings.

State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said on Friday that the cluster in Kuala Punteh has 25 cumulative cases and that its index case was identified through pre-admission screening at a hospital in the district on Feb 26.

“Upon further investigation, the index case is believed to have been infected by family members living in the same house who attended a Chinese New Year dinner on Feb 11, a paddy harvesting get-together that started on Feb 14, and a Chap Goh Meh celebration on Feb 26. “Close contact screening is still being done by the Keningau Health office, ” he added in a statement on the daily Covid-19 developments in Sabah.

Masidi also said that in line with standard operating procedures, the state government has agreed that the operating hours for economic sector activities will be from 6am to midnight. According to his statement, Sabah recorded 97 new cases on Friday, bringing the state's cumulative figure to 53,313. No fatality was reported.
