As fears grow of the potential spread of the deadly coronavirus, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health has urged for precautions measures to be taken at workplace.
In a statement yesterday it said: “Workplaces are always at high risk for exposure to various types of infectious diseases. It is therefore, the responsibility of the employers to ensure and create a safe and healthy working environment for the employees. “On the other hand, employees are also responsible for cooperating in compliance with occupational safety and health measures at workplaces, to protect themselves against any infectious diseases.”
NIOSH urged workplaces to practise measures recommended by the World Health Organization which include:2. Practising high levels of personal hygiene such as washing your hands frequently with water and soap or hand sanitizer, especially after coughing and sneezing. 3. Wearing a face mask when unwell, and when dealing with others and limiting interactions with others.
