Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the hotspots were at major highways, federal and state roads, nationwide.
“These hotspots have seen a rise in the number of road accidents, so we will be extra vigilant to bring down the figures this year’,” he said after launching Op Selamat from Jan 18 to Jan 27 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration at the Ayer Keroh Rest and Recreational Area of the North-South Expressway in Ayer Keroh here on Friday .
Razarudin said motorcyclists make up 64% of accidents reported among motorists throughout the country. He also noted that heavy vehicles also contributed to fatal accidents and traffic congestion although they made up only 8% of road users.“We anticipate two million vehicles on our roads during the festive season, especially between Jan 19 to Jan 24,” he added.
