KLIA OCPD Asst Comm Imran Abd Rahman, at a press conference on Thursday at the Airport Management Centre building here, said that the drugs were seized in two incidents at the KLIA cargo complex.
“The first occurred on May 8, where we seized three packages of suspected syabu smuggled inside electrical devices. Investigations showed that the items were due to be shipped to Tawau. “Then on May 15, we seized another 25 packages, and like the previous find, they were also hidden inside electrical devices. The packages were to be sent to Kuching and Tawau,” he said.The total estimated weight of the drugs seized was 28kg, worth RM1,008,000.The police also do not deny the possibility of these syndicates using courier workers to aid them.
“Investigations showed that the packages had been listed with fake addresses and details. It is possible both cases are from the same syndicate and our investigations are ongoing,” he said. In a related matter, KLIA police have seized RM2,018,000 in syabu at the cargo centre since the start of the year.
