Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at around 9.25am along the Causeway heading towards Singapore involving a lorry, a van, a bus and nine cars."The lorry was driven by a 34-year-old local man ferrying rock dust into the island republic. He lost control of his vehicle and crashed into 11 other vehicles in front of him at the scene,” he said.
ACP Raub added that the other vehicles involved in the pile-up are six locally registered vehicles including the lorry and six Singapore registered vehicles. He added that initial investigations found that the lorry, which lost control, had technical damages on its brake causing it to crash into the other vehicles.
He said police have detained the lorry driver at around 1.15pm where early checks found the suspect tested negative for drugs. ACP Raub said no one was injured from the incident and police have opened up an investigation paper under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving recklessly and dangerously.
