Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung told StarMetro that contractors appointed by Petaling Jaya City Council should be trained by an arborist so that they know the correct way to prune trees.“If done incorrectly, they will grow in the wrong direction,” he said when met.Lee was asked to comment on the rampant tree felling exercise in Section 17 and other areas in Petaling Jaya that left many residents questioning the city council’s lack of proper tree maintenance.
“An arborist would be the best person to prescribe which tree should be preserved and how to treat sick trees as well as advise on replanting,” he added. Lee said he had written to the Petaling Jaya mayor suggesting that the city council employ an in-house arborist to support its Landscape Department.“I have also suggested to MBPJ to work with local universities to come up with scientific-based solutions,” said Lee. — By AIDA AHMAD
