Climate change is rising up the list of voter concerns in the United States with nearly 40 percent saying the issue will be crucial in how they cast their ballots in the 2020 presidential election, according to a poll released on Thursday.
In the survey of more than 1,000 people, 38 percent of respondents said a candidate's position on global warming will be"very important" when they decide who they will vote for in the election that is still 18 months away. Global warming emerged as a voting issue in the United States in the last decade, but has only recently become a central topic, especially within the Democratic Party, said Sean Hecht, co-executive director of the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at UCLA.
