Clear run to third title for Peng Soon-Liu Ying

Going strong: Goh Liu Ying and Chan Peng Soon beat Thailand’s Nipitphon Phuangphuapet-Savitree Amitrapai in the first round of the Korean Masters yesterday.Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying have been handed a massive boost in their bid for a third World Tour title this year.

The reason for their withdrawal was not immediately known but it could be due to fatigue as Watanabe-Higashino had just beaten Jiting-Du Yue to the Hong Kong Open title last Sunday. Peng Soon-Liu Ying will next play Japan’s Hiroki Okamura-Chisato Hoshi and their path looks clear until the semi-finals where they are likely to face Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet.Soon Huat-Shevon, the Fuzhou China Open and Hong Kong Open semi-finalists in the last two weeks, continued their good run by ousting Taiwan’s Wang Chi-lin-Cheng Chi-ya 21-9,20-22,21-11.

But they will certainly be out to capitalise on Dechapol-Sapsiree’s absence to salvage something from what is their last World Tour appearance this season.
