SHANGHAI, Aug 10 : China health authority reported on Monday that 49 new Covid-19 cases in the mainland for Aug 9, compared with 23 cases a day earlier, the health authority said. The National Health Commission said in a statement As of August 9, mainland China had a total of 84,668 confirmed coronavirus cases, it said.All the 14 locally-transmitted cases were reported in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

One new suspected Covid-19 case, which was imported from outside the mainland, was reported in Shanghai Municipality.Meanwhile, Shanghai reported 18 new imported cases and no increase in domestically transmitted cases Sunday, the municipal health commission said Monday.Among them, three passengers departed from the UAE on Aug 5 and arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport the next day, while others left the UAE and arrived in Shanghai via Sri Lanka on Aug 7.

They were put under quarantine upon arrival and diagnosed as confirmed cases after showing symptoms, according to the commission.As of Sunday, Shanghai had reported 444 confirmed imported cases and 342 locally transmitted cases. - Xinhua
