GENEVA: Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia hari ini mengesahkan China bebas daripada malaria selepas negara itu berusaha selama 70 tahun untuk menangani penyakit bawaan nyamuk.
“Kejayaan ini diperoleh menerusi usaha bersungguh-sungguh dan hanya dicapai selepas melakukan tindakan bersasar serta berterusan selama beberapa dekad. “Dengan pengumuman ini, China menyertai negara-negara lain yang menunjukkan bahawa masa depan bebas malaria mampu dicapai,” kata Ketua Pengarah WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Negara-negara yang mencatatkan sifar kes tempatan selama tiga tahun berturut-turut boleh memohon pensijilan WHO berkaitan status bebas malaria. – AFP
