The Red Giants crushed Melaka 5-0 at MBPJ Stadium yesterday, which was the former national coach’s first assignment with the team.
Captain Brendan Gan was on fire as he scored a brace in the 66th and 78th minutes after they had gone ahead earlier through Norhakim Hassan and Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi .Cheng Hoe, who was only announced as the new coach last week, said the win would boost the players’ spirits to end the Super League campaign on a positive note.
“It’s a good start for me with the team but we need to improve further in many areas,” said Cheng Hoe.“We didn’t think we could win big and I believe, if the players are given more time, they can achieve better results. I want them to stay focused,” he said. The former Kedah manager also praised the young players who played pivotal roles to trigger the big win.
“I think these talented young players need to be given encouragement and confidence so that they can go to a higher level. I hope they will remain consistent,” added Cheng Hoe.Selangor have three remaining games to play against PJ City , Sarawak and Penang .
