The first ever Central Asian Catholic Youth Festival was held in Kyrgyzstan in early August. At the Jesuit center in Issyk-Kul, young people from various locations around the country and also from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Siberian Russia gathered to spend a few days of recreation and prayer, also in preparation for Pope Francis' visit to Kazakhstan in September.
The ultimate goal of the Festival was the development of a shared program for social and charitable service in the parishes and places of residence of the participants. Everyone proposed initiatives and ideas, showing much creativity and an unconventional approach to the issues. The result of the groups' work was the presentation of 6 projects with concrete suggestions and service ideas for the elderly and the most abandoned, for children and families in need, and for youth in general.
