KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia pared its losses towards the close on Tuesday on the US President Donald Trump's reassurance the US-China trade deal was on but it was the only Asian market in the red.

At 5pm, the FBM KLCI was down 4.2 points or 0.28% to 1,507.04. Turnover was 8.75 billion shares due to heavy trading in penny stocks such as Trive Property and Vivocom but overall trading value for the day shrank to nearly RM3bil.

The headlines prompted a brisk selloff but sentiment quickly recovered when Navarro, an outspoken critic of China, said his remarks had been taken out of context, and Trump later confirmed in a tweet the deal was fully in place. Tenaga rose 10 sen to RM11.88, Genting added two sen to RM4.38 but GentingM lost two sen to RM2.68, IHH Healthcare lost nine sen to RM5.43 while Sime Darby was flat at RM2.11.
