Covid-19 has cost many their lives and others their livelihoods. The virus continues to linger, infecting many despite the country moving into the endemic phase in April.

Despite the many challenges, Nehemiah Reinforced Soil Sdn Bhd founder Dr Nehemiah Lee Chee Hai is an optimist who believes Malaysia can do better to improve the lives of its multiracial society.

While many talk of seeking greener pastures elsewhere, Lee remains a patriot at heart. He did his A-Levels at the National Junior College in Singapore, after which he decided to return to Malaysia to study at Universiti Malaya, even though he was also offered a place at the National University of Singapore.

For Lee, the last couple of years have been the toughest he has experienced in his 30 years of working in the construction sector. “We employ the most suitable person for any position, irrespective of race or gender. We also help our female employees with flexible working arrangements wherever possible,” he said.

It also had to support some of its subcontractors with a food allowance of RM300 for every foreign worker or they would have left for other jobs.
