Meet Lim Cheng Joo, the man who’s been cooking up a storm along the streets of Petaling Jaya for 22 years with his signature hawker fare, Penang Char Kuey Teow.

Lim runs Robert's Char Kuey Teow, a hawker stall located at Lucky Seng Coffeeshop in Section 17, Petaling Jaya. On a normal day, Lim works the wok from 8 am until 5 pm, but due to the Covid-19 conditional movement control order, he closes shop by 2 pm. Bowls of fresh ingredients are chopped and ready to be thrown into the hot wok once an order of Char Kuey Teow is made.

The inspiration behind Lim’s stall is Uncle Robert, a relative who taught him how to cook Penang Char Kuey Teow when he was just 15 years old.A quick chilled drink to cool down before hitting the hot stove again.Despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the drop in orders, there are still loyal customers who return time and again, to order Penang Char Kuey Teow from the master chef himself.A fried egg?
