KOTA KINABALU: The body of the 31-year-old Filipino, who jumped off a ferry which was deporting illegals back to their home country, has been found in Sandakan waters.

The drowned body of Razmel Abdul Rahim, was discovered by marine police at 8.39am on Friday near the Karamunting second jetty location, about 600m from where he jumped into the sea.

"The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department and the police retrieved the body together and it was handed over to the police for further action.It was reported that an integrated search via surface rescue in boats was mounted after a witness, the ferry manager, saw the victim jumping out from the fourth level window of the vessel around 6.45pm on Wednesday .

The state Immigration Department on Wednesday reported that 653 Filipinos, who committed various immigration offences, were deported using the MV Antonia 1 ferry bound for Zamboanga City Port, the Philippines.
