KOTA KINABALU: Parents and early education centres in Sabah have been told to be vigilant for hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) despite cases showing a downward trend in the state.

Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya advised parents to educate their young children to always maintain self-hygiene including regularly washing their hands at school.

Shahelmey, who is also in charge of health matters in Sabah, said the state recorded 4,604 cases so far with 91% involving those aged below 12.
