Be alert during monsoon season, MMEA reminds Sabah’s coastal communities

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s maritime communities have been reminded to be extra careful while carrying out any sea activity during the northeast monsoon season.

“The coastal communities are reminded to wear safety jackets and also to bring personal locator beacons ,” he said in a statement here on Thursday . He said the people must also ensure their boats were in safe and good condition before setting off to sea.He urged the public to report any emergency incidents at sea to the Sabah and Labuan MMEA operations centre at 088-387774 or the Malaysian Emergency Response Service 999 number.

Meanwhile, three families had to be evacuated to temporary shelters after a flood at Kampung Kabatu in Klias, about 100km southwest of the Sabah capital on Thursday.
