A critically endangered baby Bornean orangutan was born in Indonesia's Lamandau Wildlife Reserve on Borneo island on June 23.

Nur Patria Kurniawan, head of the Central Kalimantan BKSDA, said the female cub was named Jenni, her mother Jonson's first child.

"The officers saw Jonson holding her baby around Siswoyo Camp on the morning of June 18," said Kurniawan. Officials are currently monitoring Jenni's progress, especially in the first 10 days after her birth. Jonson was evacuated from Kotawaringin Lama district and arrived in the Reserve in 2012 when she was four years old.

So far 103 baby orangutans have been born in the Reserve area, including Jenni and three others born this year.
