The operation, coordinated by the department’s Food Safety and Quality Division, involved a total of 76 personnel, including nine from Kuala Lumpur City Hall .“The joint operation involved activities related to the sale of alcoholic beverages, such as inspecting non-standard labels, preparation of signs on age limits as well as display and sale of liquor on shelves that are separate from other food or drinks.
Ten compound notices totalling RM30,000 in value were issued to 10 premises for various offences, including incomplete labels, lack of signs on the age limit for buying alcoholic beverages, and lack of segregation between alcoholic beverages and other foods. “It is the responsibility of owners of premises selling alcoholic beverages to meet standards set under the Food Act 1983 and Food Regulations 1985,” said Dr Nor’aishah.
