At least 20 dead in Uganda boat accident FMTNews FMTWorld

KAMPALA: 20 people died when a boat capsized in Ugandan waters on Lake Victoria today morning, police said as rescuers and local residents searched for survivors.

“The cause of accident is attributed to overloading and bad weather,” they added, saying that around 34 people were believed to be onboard. 32 people died in November 2018 after a pleasure boat sank in Lake Victoria during bad weather, with Ugandan police saying the vessel had more than 90 revellers on board.

It is not uncommon for ferries to capsize on the lake and the number of fatalities is often high due to a shortage of life jackets and the fact that few people know how to swim.
