CARACAS, July 13 — Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido said yesterday that unidentified armed men had “threatened” him with arrest at his apartment building, and an opposition spokesman said a close Guaido ally had been arrested.
When reporters arrived outside Guaido’s residence in eastern Caracas some minutes after Rosales’ tweet, neighbours were protesting. Some gathered around two white, unmarked trucks in which sat men bearing bulletproof vests and assault rifles, some in balaclavas, according to a Reuters witness. Others wore hats that said DIE — the Spanish acronym for the Directorate of Intelligence and Strategy police unit.
Guaido told the reporters gathered outside the building that the men had left, and said it was unclear which branch of the security forces they had belonged to.
