ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Department of Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) has foiled an attempt to bring in some 39.5 tonnes of untreated sheep’s wool worth RM330,289 at Tanjung Pelepas Port here.

Johor Maqis director Nur Afifah A. Rahman said that the wool was confiscated during an inspection inside two containers at about 3pm on Saturday that arrived from Germany last week.“But upon inspection, the wool does not have any Veterinary Health Certification, which is an offence under the Malaysia Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 ,” she said in a statement on Sunday .

She added that the offence under Act 728 carries a fine of not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment of not more than six years or both.
