PETALING JAYA: Umno leader Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said almost all his colleagues in the Supreme Council agreed to postpone party elections for 18 months due to the Covid-19 crisis. He said from the 40-over Supreme cCouncil members who voted, only two rejected the resolution on the postponement.“Only two rejected it. The rest agreed to postpone it for up to 18 months.”“It doesn’t mean we will go all the way to 18 months. The elections can be held earlier if found suitable.Earlier, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan told FMT that the party would postpone its party elections for up to 18 months, as allowed under the party’s constitution.
He said this was due to the current Covid-19 situation, adding that the party had informed the Registrar of Societies. “We consulted the health ministry and the National Security Council. We were told that we could hold elections online or postpone,” he had said.
