PUTRAJAYA: A total of 12,877 undocumented migrants have been arrested in Sabah since January so far, with slightly less than half of them still in detention centres, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Presenting a report by enforcement authorities on undocumented foreigners in the state, the Senior Minister said that 5,204 were currently being held in detention centres – 4,456 Philippine nationals, 618 Indonesians and 130 foreigners from other countries.Ismail said Ops Benteng in Sabah involves 3,493 enforcement personnel, 10 vessels and 54 intercept vessels at any one time manning the waters.

The public, he said, can do their part by informing authorities of suspicious activities involving undocumented migrants.Authorities also set up 282 roadblocks to prevent undocumented foreigners from sneaking into the country.
