KUALA LUMPUR: All five victims of the collapsed bridge on the SUKE highway have been successfully extracted from the crushed van.

The last victim was successfully extracted at around 9.29pm on Wednesday .

Earlier, the van and the people in it were trapped after a bridge under construction collapsed onto it. The City Fire and Rescue Department in a statement said they received a distress call on the incident at around 5.58pm on Wednesday. It added that 23 firemen, three fire engines and two emergency rescue service vehicles from Jalan Hang Tuah, Tun Razak and Cheras Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene along the MRR2 headed to Ampang.

"Initial investigations revealed a portion of a bridge under construction collapsed on a factory van. Information has been received that at least five people are trapped in the vehicle," the statement added.Meanwhile, City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya said a trailer carrying heavy machinery is believed to have hit a portion of the SUKE Highway bridge currently under construction.
