Many in Hong Kong were caught unprepared as the island received its heaviest rainfall since 1884.

One of the affected was singer Alam Tam whose electric car had lost its power after the torrential rain. He shared photos of his car, parked at the sidewalk, with water submerged up to the tyres, and the rear windows covered in towels.

On Friday, the 73-year-old singer took to social media to thank firefighters from two fire stations who pushed his car to safety. Fans left comments on Tam's Weibo, telling the singer they are glad that he was safe during the bad weather. Some others wondered what he was doing out in the rain. "Why are you going out on a rainy day? Stop running around and stay safe at home," a netizen wrote. Another chimed in:"Don't go wading in the water for people and cars."

Tam and his Wynners band members – Kenny Bee, Bennett Pang, Danny Yip and Anthony Chan – are set to stage a one-night concert in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 4.the Hong Kong Observatory raised its highest level blackstorm warning overnight, stating that 158.1mm of rain fell at its headquarters between 11pm and midnight, the most in a one-hour spell since records began in 1884.
