PETALING JAYA: It will be a “wet Christmas” as authorities brace for continued downpours in the coming days and weeks.

Meteorological Department director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said the department has predicted between four and six episodes of heavy rain during the northeast monsoon season.

Most places in Sabah including the interiors, west coast, Kudat and Sandakan as well as Labuan are expected to encounter rain throughout Christmas Day. “It is still too early to make predictions for New Year’s Day and Chinese New Year, but as long as the northeast monsoon is ongoing, there is still potential for continuous rain,” said Muhammad Helmi.
