PETALING JAYA: Can Viktor Axelsen end a 16-year wait for Denmark by winning the Singapore Open for the first time?

The world No. 1 is one of the first few who has confirmed his participation for the tournament in the Lion City from July 12-17.In his tweet after his misfortune in Bangkok, he had stated: “After slipping on the courts last week during the Thomas Cup, I suffered a minor injury which I have been dealing with the last seven to eight days.

If he is in top form, reigning Olympic champion Axelsen stands a good chance to become the first Dane after Peter Gade to win the Singapore Open. Gade was the last Dane to win it in 2006. He also emerged victorious at the season-ending World Tour Finals. He continued his fine form this year by winning the German Open, All-England and European Championships.
