MIRI: Some 7,000 people living in nine villages in the deep remote parts of northern Sarawak have been given solar-powered electricity sets that will provide them with free 24-hour power supply.

The project is facilitated by Sarawak Energy Bhd under its Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme .Sarawak Public Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom recently presented the nine villages’ community chiefs with the SARES solar systems at a ceremony in Lio Mato settlement, witnessed by SEB top officials.

The beneficiaries are from 630 households in the nine remote settlements: Lio Mato, Long Ajeng, Ba Muboi, Long Tungan, Long Selaan, Long Moh, Long Jeeh, Long Jikitan and Long Tikan.“SARES is the method that we use to provide free and reliable electricity to those villages that are located in very remote jungles and mountains.“SARES provides reliable electricity 24 hours a day, ” he said.

Rundi added that with SARES, villagers no longer have to rely on diesel to power their generator sets, which require a lot of diesel fuel that can be costly. The nine settlements are located in the upper reaches of Baram district about 10 hours by timber road from Miri.

RM1.2bil to repair deteriorating rural roads, says S'wak Deputy SpeakerMIRI: A sum of RM1.2bil is being set aside to repair roads in northern Sarawak that often turn into rivers of mud during rainy days. I admire the true grit of Sabahans who have tolerated these kinda 'roads'. What have you been putting up with all these years? No more. This new govt gotta make the state Great! MuhyiddinYassin Pls help and see the main roads from Sibu to Bintulu, to Miri.. After the Pan Borneo cancelled or slowed down, the jalan there sangat teruk, dangerous holes and conditions. Many people died from accidents from the very bad main roads 😩😭 Start a campaign for the rich group to offer a more constructive CSR work for the rural areas. Not for leisure any longer. This should falls under the ministry programmes such as Luar Bandar, Perpaduan Masyarakat and govt agencies. If echoed by private sectors will be much better
