6 months to test new bauxite mining SOP, says minister | The Malaysian Insight

Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar says the Pahang government will test out new SOP for bauxite mining for 6 months to see if industry players can comply and whether agencies can enforce the new rules. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, November 4, 2019.

THE Pahang government has proposed a six-month period to test the effectiveness of new standard operating procedures for mining and exporting bauxite before reopening mining activities in the state. Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar said this is to test the ability of industry players to comply with all the terms of the SOP and to see the capability of enforcement agencies overseeing the mining and export operations.
