KOTA KINABALU: A total of 44 schools in Sabah’s east coast have been temporarily closed for disinfection due to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the area.

Sabah Education Department director Mistirine Radin said SK Kunak Jaya is expected to reopen on Sept 29 while SK Kunak 2 is expected to resume classes on Oct 6.

She added that a total of nine schools in Lahad Datu are closed for 14 days starting earlier this month. They are SMK Agaseh , SK St Stephens starting , those from Sept 19 - SMK Silabukan, SK St Dominic, Sk Bikang, SK Permai, Sk Pekan and Sk Binuang while SMK Tungku was closed starting Sept 21.A total of 30 schools in other areas including Silam and Silabukan will be closed started Sept 23 until further notice.

“For these schools, only Primary 5,6 and Form 5 students are required to attend classes while the rest are required to go for online classes. Project-based learning and offline studies are also encouraged during this period, ” said Mistirine.Tawau, Lahad Datu, Kota Kinabalu, Semporna, Sandakan and Kunak have been categorised as red zones.Kota Kinabalu has 82 cases while, Semporna, Sandakan and Kunak recorded 55,41 and 41 cases respectively.
