State Police Commissioner Datuk Idris bin Abdullah said a total of 409 accidents were reported from Jan 18 until 24 compared to 303 accidents under the same period before. He said this showed an increase of 106 cases which was 35 per cent and five people died compared to six under ‘Op Selamat 17’.“During ‘Op Selamat 19’, a total of 157 operations were carried out and 6,845 summonses were issued against road users for various offences.
For burglary, he said a total of 25 cases were reported, but none from house owners who informed the police before going on holidays. He said police conducted a total of 1,189 visits to 100 houses whose owners filled up forms that they would go back to their hometowns or villages during the ‘Op Selamat 19’. “I hope that all levels of society and road users in general are always careful and practise tolerance when driving on the road.
