Kota Kinabalu: Thirty-three people were jailed by the Special Immigration Court for entering the State illegally and overstaying in the State.

All of them pleaded guilty separately before High Court Deputy Registrar Dana Arabi Wazani, who sat as Sessions Court Judge, at the Immigration Temporary Detention Centre in Manggatal, here.Twenty-six of them were jailed three, four and six months each for entering the State without any document and one of them was ordered given a stroke of the cane.

The illegal immigrants were charged under Section 6 of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which provides for a jail term of up to five years, or a fine of up to RM10,000, on conviction.
