The government is planning to impose an additional charge for purchases made via e-commerce platforms.

BACHOK: The communications and multimedia ministry is planning to impose a 20-sen charge for purchases costing between RM200 and RM1,000 on online platforms, such as Lazada and Shopee. Its deputy minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin said it was a measure to raise funds to help the B40 group, as well as to improve telecommunications infrastructure in rural areas.

“We are discussing plans to find alternative resources that will not burden the people. We also want to give the best services to them,” he told reporters after attending the Kelantan-level“So, the 20 sen will be like a service charge.
