MANILA: Sekurang-kurangnya 12 orang maut selepas Taufan Rai membadai Filipina sehingga menyebabkan pokok dan tiang elektrik tumbang.
Taufan Rai adalah taufan paling kuat melanda Pulau Siargao sejak Khamis lalu dengan membawa angin berkelajuan maksimum 195 kilometer sejam .Ribut taufan yang melanda seluruh kepulauan Mindanao turut menyebabkan kawasan perkampungan dilanda banjir. Bencana itu menyebabkan 300,000 penduduk terpaksa berpindah dan pusat peranginan di tepi pantai musnah akibat Taufan Rai melanda wilayah selatan dan tengah negara itu.Koresponden ABS-CBN, Dennis Datu yang berada di lokasi kejadian melaporkan orang ramai berpusu-pusu ke kawasan jalan dalam keadaan terkejut.
Katanya, jalan utama ke bandar itu turut terhalang akibat tanah runtuh, pokok tumbang dan tiang elektrik tumbang. “Semua bangunan mengalami kerosakan teruk termasuk pejabat bencana wilayah seperti dilanda bom,” katanya.-AFP
